## 3D brain meshes: BodyParts3D

The brain model is built from **BodyParts3D 4.0**, © The Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS),
licensed under the **Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.1 Japan** licence (CC BY-SA 2.1 JP).

**Changes we made:** `tools/build-brain.cjs` takes the element OBJ files of 40 brain structures and the cerebral white matter (from the
`partof` and, for the thalamus, amygdala, caudate nucleus, putamen, globus pallidus, corpus callosum, superior temporal
gyrus and orbital gyri, the `isa` archive of the same release), re-frames them to one coordinate system, reduces them by vertex
clustering (about 221,000 to 124,000 vertices) and quantises positions to 16-bit integers.

Element files added 2026-10-12, from the `isa` archive: FJ1837 and FJ1839 (anterior and posterior part of left
superior temporal gyrus), FJ1838 and FJ1840 (the same, right), FJ1793 and FJ1794 (orbital gyrus, left and right).

**The derived meshes in `data/` (`data/brain.bin` and `data/brain.json`) are shared under the same licence,
CC BY-SA 2.1 Japan**, with the attribution above.

## Printable diagrams (/diagram/, /diagram/blank/)

`tools/build-diagram.cjs` projects the derived meshes above orthographically into the side (lateral, left hemisphere),
midline (medial sagittal, right hemisphere) and underside (inferior) outlines in `html/diagram/*.svg` and the two diagram
pages. Each sheet carries "Drawn from BodyParts3D, (c) The Database Center for Life Science, CC BY-SA 2.1 JP" and the
diagrams are shared under the same licence, CC BY-SA 2.1 Japan.
